Historical footprints are everywhere, from the towering Portara gateway, a tribute to Apollo built in the 6th century BC, to the stalwart Glezos Tower – the lone sentinel from the dozen fortifications of the medieval era. You will also find fascinating pieces of history in the Sanudo Castle, Della Rocca Barozzi Tower perched at the entrance of the castle, Ursulines School, and the Jesuit Commercial School that came into being during the 17th century.

5. Agios Prokopios, best place to stay in Naxos for beach clubs

Located just a 15-minute bus ride from Naxos Town, Agios Prokopios is an excellent area to stay without a car if you want to be close to the beach in a lively, small town. The frequent summer bus service, running every 30 minutes from early morning until well past midnight, makes it convenient and comfortable to travel to Naxos Town without the need for a car.
Until recently, I would have recommended Agios Prokopios primarily to families with kids. However, in the past few years, this town has undergone a significant transformation.
Today, Agios Prokopios is the go-to spot for beach clubs and chill-out music that becomes more energetic as the day goes on.
What remains unchanged is the stunning beach, featuring shallow, turquoise waters—a true paradise.
Agios Prokopios has become popular with the young crowd, although it’s worth noting that the town DOESN’T offer a wild nightlife scene (Chora is better suited for that).
If you’re looking for a relaxed stay, surrounded by great music and a cool atmosphere, Agios Prokopios is the perfect choice.
Although most tourist shops, bars, cafes, and restaurants are located along the beach, it is worth visiting the village as well. There you will find local-style taverns with local food.
In Agios Prokopios, you will find an excellent selection of accommodations, from rented rooms and studios to hotels and luxury resorts with spas.
