1. How do you get around in Spetses?
Cars aren’t allowed on the island, which honestly makes it even more charming. To move around, you’ll mostly walk, bike, or hop on a scooter or a quad. There are also local buses, and for a bit of flair, you can even take a horse-drawn carriage – yes, they’re still a thing here.
One of my favorite ways to explore Spetses, though, is by sea. Water taxis, small boats, and traditional kaikia (fishing boats) are popular and a great way to reach beaches or hidden coves you wouldn’t get to otherwise.
2. How do you get to Spetses?
You’ve got three main options.
The easiest is to take a ferry from Piraeus – daily routes are available, and the ride takes about 3 hours. It’s comfortable and scenic if you don’t mind the time.
If you’re already in the Peloponnese, you can catch a boat from Porto Heli – it’s a super short 10-minute trip. There’s also a connection from Ermioni, which takes around 20 minutes.
Personally, if you’re after the quickest route, I’d go with Porto Heli. But for the full experience, nothing beats arriving straight from Athens by sea.
